1-on-1 IDI (In-depth Interviews)
Our primary method of sourcing information from our panel to garner insights into market trends, etc.
Detailed, online/phone interviews, usually with one respondent and one interviewer. These can be done in dozens of global regions, in a variety of languages and be recorded/transcribed.
In-depth Interviews (IDIs) with subject matter experts are an indispensable market research technique for uncovering the “why” behind many business questions. BioInfo’s approach to is both flexible and scalable to accommodate your timeframe and budget.
We begin with recruitment — identifying the right individuals with the appropriate experience and seniority to answer your most pressing questions. We typically recruit from our global panel of science and medical professionals, The Science Advisory Board® who been pre-screened and have explicitly agreed to participate in our research. When your needs are highly specialized we are skilled at recruiting using a variety of sources to include membership in relevant professional societies, speaking engagements and presentations, conference participation and social media.
Next, we work with you to develop a Discussion Guide. Our moderators all have advanced scientific degrees or relevant industry experience can speak with subject matter experts on a collegial level. For this reason, the discussion guide isn’t intended to be a “script” because we prefer interviews that are in the form of a conversation rather than a traditional market survey interview. This technique allows our expert moderators greater freedom, latitude, and flexibility in working with each subject matter expert.
Our moderators to steer the conversation to areas that the participant may be more willing and open to discussing, while minimizing any perceived threats or concerns over confidentiality. Interviews generally range from 30 minutes to one hour and we will communicate with you on a regular basis to advise you of significant findings or to suggest changes in our approach. At the conclusion of the project you can choose from a range of reporting options to include call notes, recordings and an executive summary of our key findings.

Customer observation and interaction in his/her natural workspace.
To truly understand your customers you need to understand the culture, norms, and workflows of their labs. We use ethnographic market research (EMR) to help you uncover how your products are used in the real world. Our expert moderators literally “shadow” a scientist in their work environment, taking notes and asking questions on their activities throughout.
Our observation of scientists frequently uncovers valuable insights as your customers show us workarounds to problems they encounter when using your product or shortcuts they’ve developed to improve their workflow. These insights can then be incorporated into improved training, in new user guides and application notes or even in new product development.
